VanGo Call for Artists
VanGo is the mobile component of Ormond Memorial Art Museum and Garden’s ArtReach programming that brings a museum field trip experience to elementary school children in Volusia and Flagler Counties. VanGo offers access to original, contemporary art exhibits and multi-disciplinary art activities presented by teaching artist Sandy Fraser, MA. The only program of its kind in Florida, VanGo is cruising into our community to educate over 10,000 children a year in the visual arts and to inspire creative thinking everywhere!
Van Go will feature the work of artists residing in Volusia, Flagler, Lake, Seminole, Orange and Brevard Counties, along with art displayed as part of the rotating exhibit schedule at Ormond Memorial Art Museum and Gardens. VanGo is accepting submissions for 2D and 3D artwork for the following themes and dates:
August 25th-October 2nd
VanGo Presents:
Shape and Line: Expression is Mine
VanGo guides participants on an exploration of line and shape found in nature, world art and cultures. World artists include Calder, Frykholm, Lichtenstein, Mondrian, Arman, and Adami. The featured activity for this exhibit is the utilization of line and shape through the creation of tessellations.
October 6th-December 4th
VanGo Presents:
Please Copy Me: Imitation is the Sincerest Form of Flattery
VanGo proudly presents its first group exhibition “Pieces of Eight”, a celebration of the beauty and richness of Renaissance art interpreted through the eyes and palettes of eight celebrated artists located in Brevard County, Florida. The featured activity for this exhibit is still life based on art from observation.
December 8th-January 29th
VanGo Presents:
Feeling it Now: Texture all Around Us
VanGo inspires participants with an interactive display of texture in art and design. World artists include Bonnard, Rembrandt, Copley, Caravaggio, Kustodiev and Ringgold. The featured activity is mixed-media collage.
February 2nd-April 2nd
VanGo Presents:
The Nature of the Beast: Animals in Art
VanGo engages participants in a lively discussion and presentation on the depiction of animals in art and their role in world art and culture. World artists include Colville, Picasso, Tamayo, Doumouchel, and Renoir. The featured activity is the creation of a 3D animal sculpture.
April 6th-May 28th
VanGo Presents:
Color my World: The Science and Symbolism of Color
VanGo explores the science behind the magic of color, and how color is used for individual and cultural expression in art and history. World artists include Kandinsky, Miro, Derain, Gontcharoya and Dewasne. The featured art activity explores the properties of color through the discussion of color theory and the practice of mixing colors.
June 1st-July 30th
VanGo Presents:
Lights, Canvas, Action: Movement and Rhythm in Art
VanGo celebrates movement and rhythm found in art and design. The featured art activity practices capturing movement in natural and man-made objects. World artists include Munch, Shahn, Degas, Homer and Seurat.
Criteria for Submission and Consideration
To be considered, professional artists must meet the criteria listed below:
• The artist has participated in an adjudicated exhibit within the last 5 years.
• All artwork is original, not the work of a class/group study and has been completed within the last 5 years.
• Artwork fits the theme submitted and is appropriate for children in an educational setting.
• 2D artwork is no larger than 36” x 36”. 3D art work is no larger than 24” x 24” and weighs less than 25 lbs.
• Artists agree to allow VanGo to exhibit their work for the duration of the specific exhibit.
• Artists must reside in Volusia, Flagler, Seminole, Lake and Brevard Counties, Florida.
Note: All work will be photographed on delivery for insurance purposes only. All work will be signed in and out by the artist and museum representative with an agreed-on condition report. All work is insured and for display purposes only (no little hands).
What to Submit
• Images to be considered on DVD or CD. All images should be in .jpg format and no larger than 4” x 5” and 250 dpi resolution.
• Slide identification sheet which includes:
*Artist’s name, address, phone number and e-mail
* Corresponding slide number
* Title of work
* Medium of work
* Dimensions of work
* Declared Value (insurance purposes)
* Exhibit you wish to participate in
* A stamped, self addressed envelope for return of materials.
