VanGo Presents
Line Up: Exploring Line and Shape

VanGo guides participants on a tour of balance and pattern in art and nature through the use of shape and line to create emphasis and visual weight. The featured activity for this exhibit is the creation of an art work utilizing shape, line and tessellations to create pattern and balance.
VanGo's Shape and Line program emphasizes:
  • Composing with 2D and 3D geometric shapes (Mathematics)
  • Utilizing multiple strategies to develop grade appropriate vocabulary (Language Arts)
  • Sorting objects by observable properties such as size, shape and textures (Science)
  • Demonstrating understanding of the world in spatial terms (Social Studies)


October 3 - December 1

VanGo Presents
Picture This: Portraiture through the Ages

Young artists will experience the history and role of portraiture in world art and culture. Participants will learn how to depict portraits and self-portraits through the use of algebra to divide up the face. Mirrors are provided for the featured activity and participants are encouraged to depict themselves.
VanGo's Portraiture program emphasizes:
  • Describing, analyzing and composing with shapes in space (Mathematics)
  • Utilizing multiple strategies to develop grade appropriate vocabulary (Language Arts)
  • Sorting objects by observable properties such as size and shape (Science)
  • Understanding that cultural and historical beliefs are reflected in art forms (Social Studies)


December 5 - February 2

I Spy with My Little Eye: Art from Observation

VanGo's participants will engage their senses and sharpen their powers of observation to create an original art work using mixed media. Props and the study of art in cultures throughout the world will encourage young artists to depict a still life for the featured activity.
VanGo's Art from Observation emphasizes:
  • Describing, analyzing and composing with shapes in space (Mathematics)
  • Collecting, processing and presenting information (Language Arts)
  • Recognizing that both human events and historical beliefs can have major impacts on the environment (Science)
  • Understanding that cultural and historical beliefs are reflected in art forms (Social Studies)

The Call me Mellow Yellow: Color Science and Symbolism

VanGo presents a comprehensive study and demonstration of color symbolism and the science of light. The featured activity will provide participants with an opportunity to experiment and experience the use of color with various media in their own original art.
VanGo's Color program emphasizes:
  • Discussing and describing shapes and forms (Mathematics)
  • Understanding how ideas, decisions and events shape world history and culture (Language Arts)
  • Raising questions about the natural world, investigating answers and generating appropriate answers (Science)

Move it on Over: Rhythm and Movement in Art

VanGo encourages participants to get up and get moving through an interactive study of movement and rhythm in art. Emphasis is placed on the role of movement in figurative art. The featured activity will encourage young artists to express themselves with the creation of mixed media pieces that reflect their active interests.
VanGo's Rhythm and Movement program emphasizes:
  • Describing and analyzing shapes and space (Mathematics)
  • Utilizing multiple strategies to develop grade appropriate vocabulary (Language Arts)
  • Sorting objects by observable properties such as size, shape, color and weight (Science)
  • Understanding methods of communication and developments that facilitate visual communication (Social Studies)

The Eye of the Tiger: Animals and Art

VanGo engages participants in a lively discussion and presentation on the depiction of animals in art and their role in world art and culture. Participants will utilize mixed media to create animals from observation and imagination.
VanGo's Animals and Art program emphasizes:
  • Describing and discussing the properties of 2D and 3D shape, space and form (Mathematics)
  • Raising questions about the natural world, investigating answers and generating appropriate explanations (Science)
